Do you care deeply about social justice and equity issues? Do you want to develop your facilitation skills? Do you want to make UBC a welcoming and inclusive campus?
If you said yes…then we want you!
The Equity & Inclusion Office and the Centre for Student Involvement & Careers are looking for a group of 20 student facilitators to work with student leaders to foster an inclusive community at UBC.
Become a student facilitator with the Active Bystander program. By co-facilitating the Community Building workshops, you will help other student leaders develop the skills and confidence needed to respond to discrimination. You will increase student awareness and understanding of issues surrounding equity, diversity, and inclusion.
As a student facilitator you will:
- Participate in 10 hours of professional development, including specific social justice content, presentation, facilitation, and group discussion skills.
- Work in collaboration with UBC Staff to create an inclusive workshop
- Facilitate workshops at Spring Welcome on April 1, 2017 (8:30am – 4pm).
- Become a champion for social change at UBC
Total hours for this commitment: 20 hours between Jan – April 2017.
You have completed the Community Building Through Understanding and the Community Building Through Action workshops (most likely at Spring Welcome)
Please note: Meals and snacks will be provided for all professional development sessions and events.
To learn more about this exciting opportunity and meet students with previous experience, join us for a lunch information session on either Tuesday, January 17 from 12:00pm-1:30 pm or Wednesday, January 18 from 12:00pm-1:00pm in the Centre for Student Involvement and Careers (Brock Hall). Please email Rachael Sullivan at email@example.com if you plan on attending – so we can make sure we order enough lunch! If you are unable to make either of these sessions, you are still welcome to apply. However, we hope to see many of you at these sessions.
Applications now open and will be due by midnight on January 23.
We look forward to meeting you, and appreciate your commitment to supporting inclusive community at UBC!
